Why Small Habits Create Big Results

To build a small habits, you need to practice it. This is how many repetitions are required to make a habit automatic. It doesn’t matter if it’s been twenty one days or thirty days or N number of days. What matters is the rate at which you perform the behaviour. What actions you need to take to make progress. Most self evaluation consists of making long mental lists of one’s faults, shortcomings, inadequacies, for this shows us areas in which we can improve. You should always value and measure your true size. Determine your chief assets, what could be your assets, your education, experience, technical skills, appearance, well adjusted home life, attitudes, personality, initiative. Think as big as you really are, Never sell yourself short ! Always use bright, cheerful, favourable words and phrases to describe other people as well as yourself. The only thing that counts about one’s vocabulary, is the effect his words and phrases have on his own and other’s thinking.

Sometimes you have to reprogram your brain to enjoy your hard habits, to make it more attractive if you can learn to associate them with a positive experience. All you need is a slight mind set shift.

Reframe your habits to highlight their benefits rather than their drawbacks. 

  • Many people associate exercise with being a challenging task that drains energy and wears you down. But it actually develops skills and builds you up.
  • Saving money is often associated with sacrifice and limitation but the simple truth is living below your current means increases your future means.
  • Sometimes interruption and distraction leads to frustration but it’s a good thing because it gives you a chance to practice meditation and align your path.
  • Sometimes negative feelings threaten and tense you up, you can interpret these feelings positively to help you concentrate and by moving a step further for yourself you can create a motivation ritual. Once I met a baseball player, he introduced the small strategy behind his success, he developed a specific ritual of stretching and throwing before each game, this whole sequence took ten minutes which made him motivated beforehand, and he felt himself in game mode.
  • Every behavior has a surface level craving and a deeper underlying motive, whether it is to find love and reproduce, connect with others, win social acceptance and approval, reduce uncertainty, achieve status and prestige, desire to smoke or to relieve anxiety.
  • Focus on taking action, not being in motion. The most effective way of learning is practice, not only planning. Habits are easier to build when they fit into the flow of your life and routine and which is not causing any obstacle or blocks to get you out of your way. Walking 10000 steps is moderately difficult but walking for 10 minutes in short breaks is easy.
  • Always try to prime your environment where doing the right thing is possible, like if you are a working woman keep your things ready for the morning breakfast to keep you active and punctual, which boost your energy and make your lifestyle easy.
  • Surround yourself with the people or tribe who have the habits you want to have yourself. Nothing sustains motivation better than belonging to the tribe. It transforms the personal quest of building the identity into a shared one. You are a musician , it’s just you but when you join a band it becomes the brand of the shared identity. But never allow the tribe to overpower your own desired individual behaviour. We always try to accomplish something to separate us from the crowd, but once we start to fit in the change is attractive.
  • Right before you level up, everything gets harder. Doubt creeps in. Progress stalls. The setbacks hit back to back. Most take it as a sign to slow down. To back off. To shrink. But this isn’t a warning, it’s a threshold. A breaking point. A test to see if you are ready for what comes next. The ones who stop stay exactly where they are. The ones who push through…they step into the life they once thought was out of reach. The real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions. Overeating is harmful in the long run but appetizing in the moment. Bad habits often lead to immediate outcomes and relief but the ultimate outcome will not align to your long term goals.
  • Look important; it helps you think important. Your appearance talks to you. Be sure it lifts your spirits and builds your confidence. Your appearance talks to others. I think your work is important. Think this way and you will receive mental signals on how to do your job better.
  • Win spiritually by grounding yourself through gratitude, prayer or reflection.
  • Don’t let your past chain you to who you used to be. Mistakes, regrets, and setbacks are lessons- not life sentences.
  • Success is not built in the spotlight, it’s built in the quiet reps, the unseen hours, and the days nobody’s clapping. Usain Bolt ( an athlete who races over short distances) trained for 20 years, but the world only saw him for 9.58 seconds.
  • Bad habits don’t break on their own- they demand something stronger to counter them. That strength is discipline. It’s choosing long- term growth over short-term comfort, even when it’s hard.
  • I’m not one of those people who sits down and pours their heart into a beautiful notebook every night. But I did start scribbling down just one thing I’m grateful for every day. It’s not deep or poetic, it can be as basic as long as you are grateful for that. But even that small practice has shifted my mindset. I feel relaxed writing down everything that goes on my mind. I indeed start pouring my heart out.
  • We can’t just sit idle and wait for our life to change. It’s about those small habits that will eventually help us grow and will keep us ahead. And to be honest the daily lifestyle of today’s generation is so messed up, we are impatient, we consume unhealthy food, we don’t do any physical activity, endless scrolling on social media– these things are not improving us in any way, it doesn’t come with long term benefit. I used to roll my eyes at the idea that tiny changes could actually make a difference. But now, I’m realizing that it’s the little things that create impact. You feel satisfied seeing the effects these things create.

    Start small. Really small. Pick one tiny habit and stick with it. You might be surprised by how much of a difference it makes.
